Nurture teaching talent in your school and trust
Our Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship (PGTA) is a 12-month salaried training programme that allows recruits to gain QTS and a teaching apprenticeship qualification, whilst remaining in paid employment in school.
Apprentices can specialise in primary or a specific subject at secondary level. Our blended learning approach combines in-school experience, centre-based training and remote learning across Yorkshire and the Humber, and the North East.
The recommended submission date for PGTA applications is May 2025.
Apprenticeships are structured training programmes that combine practical work experience with academic learning. They are designed to equip learners with the skills, knowledge, and qualifications needed to succeed in their chosen career. Apprenticeships are available in a wide range of industries and can be tailored to meet the specific needs of employers and apprentices.
As a government-accredited apprenticeship provider, we are pleased to be developing a portfolio of programmes to meet the needs of our communities. We will use the apprentice levy to fund employment-based training, drawing on research, best practice, and a supportive learning environment at our conferencing facilities at The Education Exchange – and across our partners - to ensure employers and learners benefit from the best opportunities we can provide. Our current offer is the Level 6 Post Graduate Teacher Apprenticeship (PGTA).
The opportunity to build upon the capacity and talent within your school, improving staff recruitment and retention.
Apprentices can start on a higher teaching timetable than other ITT trainees (up to 60% of their in-school time, rising to 80% for the last 6 weeks of the training year).
Hands-on training allows apprentices to develop practical skills that are directly applicable in school. Apprentices are not supernumerary, meaning they can teach their own classes from day one.
Employers benefit from a skilled and motivated workforce, and funding through the apprentice levy.
